This video is an introduction to caches on x64 CPU’s. We will explore some of the more detailed topics of x64 along side the basics series which we’ve been going through lately.
Today we’re just scratching the surface of a very detailed and deep topic. Caches are extremely important in performance programming. The demo at the end shows that a little thought about caches can greatly improve the performance even in a high level language. Eventually, we’ll move closer to the CPU and ASM and gain more performance by leveraging the caches much more directly.
