Hello everyone. Welcome to a new video on this channel. Today we’re testing an ultrabook, a Dell Latitude 12 E7250. It’s a full business notebook that fits in everyone’s bag. Let us see what the small device is capable of.
As a CPU, we’ve got an Intel Core i5 5300U with its Intel HD Graphics 5500 and 16GB of DDR3L dual-channel ram.
Let’s start with the CPU:
The Intel Core i5-5300U from the new Broadwell generation clocks at 2.3 GHz. The two cores support Hyperthreading, so the CPU can execute up to four threads simultaneously. The Turbo Boost enables a maximum clock of 2.9 GHz for one core and 2.7 GHz for both cores. The processor is an ultra-low voltage with a TDP of 15 Watts. The 15W TDP is the reason why this CPU is downclocking itself in a lot of titles. This is clearly shown, for example, in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. The processor can reach its maximum Turbo clock, but it quickly starts to throttle when you start to stress the GPU at the same time: The cooling solution does not seem to be powerful enough for a simultaneous high load of both components. But that’s not that much of a problem because the Intel HD Graphics 5500 wouldn’t be capable of running such demanding games anyways.
In practice, the processor does leave a pretty good impression considering its age.
Now some words to the onboard graphics:
The Intel HD Graphics 5500 was introduced with the Broadwell generation. It is faster than the GPU solution of the previous generation; and usually runs at 300 MHz, but the clock can be raised up to 950 MHz via Turbo. This GPU should be well suited for common tasks and some light gaming, but it cannot always maintain the maximum Turbo clock and drops to 750 MHz in complex 3D applications that also stress the processor. This means the performance is not quite as high as expected.
Don’t get me wrong. I’d call the HD 5500 as an ok chip for less demanding titles like League of Legends, the Sims 4, or Minecraft. But I wouldn’t use it for games that are just slightly more demanding like CS:GO or GTA V. You either have to lower the resolution or the settings heavily or play at a huge disadvantage performance-wise, which is really a problem in E-sport titles.
Of course, even heavier demanding titles like Apex Legends, Warzone, or Rainbow Six Siege weren’t playable at all.
So what is the Intel HD Graphics 5500 generally good for? It’s doing a good job in running light games. And that should also be the max use case in 2021. It’s nice to see that FIFA 21 ran at locked 30 FPS but the gaming experience just didn’t feel right, you know? Playing this title for example felt a little sluggish. And this has also been the case in Path of Exile or Fortnite to name some games. These little hiccups in the frame time are pretty much annoying.
Another good use case for this system would probably be Bluestacks 5 android emulation. I’ve tested FreeFire in this video, it ran totally fine. Also, without recording, I’ve tested Call of Duty mobile, which performed pretty well at locked 30 fps.
So in conclusion I can recommend this system for light gaming and android games emulation in 2021.
Before we come to the end of my voiceover I have to apologize. The audio is desynchronized to the video footage in a lot of game clips. The reason for this is probably my Elgato HD60S which messed up that one in OBS. However, that’s the reason why I had to use background music for the entire video. The audio without recording is totally fine.
So that’s it. I hope you’re going to like this video. If you do feel free to leave a like and subscribe to this channel. I hopefully see you all in the next video. Stay safe and have a great day. Goodbye.
