About this video: This video is our complete guide to Citizens. What is Citizens? Well, it is a really cool plugin that allows you to add all kinds of different NPCs into Minecraft. They can do everything from standstill to walk and talk to players naturally. You can even take them for ride if you want! Citizens aren’t just villager/player NPCs though. They also offer mob NPCs. For example, you can create intimidating blazes around a Nether portal, welcoming sheep near the spawn, and helpful villagers in your villages.
Because Citizens can do so much a video on everything would be hours long and super hard to follow. My goal here is to give you a great place to get started and where to go for more information. So, let’s go ahead and get Citizens setup on our Minecraft server!
First and foremost, we need to download Citizens. You can find the official Citizens download page in the description above. Now, Citizens is a premium plugin, and it is $10. However, that price is well worth it for all that it can add to your server! You also need to login to a Spigot account in order to see the plugin page. After you download Citizens, just drop it into your plugins folder and restart your server to get it installed.
After that, you can find the Citizens config.yml in the plugins, Citizens folder. There isn’t much here I would recommend changing. Most of the global Citizens settings listed here can be changed per NPC, so leaving the default is usually perfectly okay.
Once we get in-game, we can really start getting things going with Citizens. First, we need to create a Citizens NPC. To do this, type /npc create (NAME) —type (TYPE). You can enter anything for the name, but the entity type must be from the Bukkit Entity list above.
After you have created your NPC, you can do /npc help for a list of commands, and there is a lot of them. You will automatically have the last NPC you created selected. However, if you need to select an NPC, do /npc select to select the NPC that is closet to you. Now, you can remove an NPC with the /NPC remove command. For a full list of NPCs, do /npc list. To enter the equipment editor and change the gear and NPC has, you can use the /npc equip command. Then, just click on the NPC with the item you want them to equip in your hand. You can find additional Citizens command at the link above.
There are many more features in Citizens like choosing villager professions, setting traits for your NPC, making NPCs move with the path command, and so much more. This is covered in the video as well as the Citizens Wiki linked above. However, that is an intro to Citizens. You now know enough to get started. One of the cool things about Citizens is that it works with so many other plugins. For example, if you want to add quests to your server, you can do that using an add-on plugin and Citizens.
If you have any questions about adding Citizens to your server, please let us know in the comment section below, and if we did help you setup NPCs on your Minecraft server, be sure to give the video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already. It really helps us out, and it means a ton to me!
